AARP Arizona this week launched a public outreach effort urging Arizonans across the state to ask their state representatives to support Governor Jan Brewer’s plan to restore Medicaid.
The outreach includes automated calls, grassroots emails, radio and newspaper advertising in urban and rural areas of the state.
“We hope our efforts will spur Arizonans to ask their state legislators to support restoring funding for AHCCCS, Arizona’s Medicaid program,” said David Mitchell, AARP Arizona state director. “Restoring AHCCCS will help thousands of 50 to 64-year-olds in our state who have lost their jobs, or are struggling in low-wage jobs, to qualify for health care coverage.”
Mitchell adds that AARP Arizona’s outreach will raise awareness that restoring AHCCCS (Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System) will give people without insurance access to preventive care that can save lives, reduce the need for expensive emergency room care, and ease emergency room overcrowding.
“We urge Arizonans to contact their state representatives and ask them to support Governor Brewer’s plan to restore AHCCCS,” said Mitchell.
AARP urges all Arizonans to call 800-635-1912 to contact their state legislator.
