PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities say a Phoenix woman has been arrested in connection with the murder of her mother.

Phoenix police say the victim also was in the process of being dismembered when officers arrived on the scene early Monday.

Police say 42-year-old Carol Hatley is being booked into jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.

The victim is identified as 73-year-old Deborah Hatley.

Officers responded to a call of a deceased person about 3:30 a.m. at the victim's home.

Police say Deborah Hatley had obvious trauma to her body and had been murdered and was in the process of being dismembered.

They say Carol Hatley provided a statement regarding the circumstances that preceded the death of her mother and taken into custody.

Police didn't immediately know whether Carol Hatley has legal representation yet.
