The owner of two restaurants in the Sun Cities will take over the Strike Zone, which has been under the management of the Recreation Centers of Sun City West for the last six months.
Guilliermo Rivas, owner of La Petite Cafe, which has locations on the Del E. Webb Memorial Medical Center campus in Sun City West and Bell Recreation Center in Sun City, will run the eatery in the Sports Pavilion, 19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd., RCSCW officials announced this morning.
The new restaurant, which will open on July 17, will be called La Petite Cafe and feature a varied menu from turkey dinners to taco salads to center-cut pork loin. The restaurant will serve full breakfasts, lunches and dinners, officials said.
“They have 15 years of experience in the community. They know what the people want and expect. It’ll be an easy transition for them and the residents,” said Barry Hardesty, Sports Pavilion manager.
The association had been investigating a number of options for the restaurant, which was unprofitable.
When the Strike Zone re-opened in January, it was renovated with a ’50s and ’60s retro, decor, a built-in countertop and stools where customers could dine. The restaurant also featured traditional table seating.
In addition, RCSCW hired Dave Wood as the executive chef. Wood recently moved on to another job unrelated to the new takeover.

How can any fool believe the Strike Zone was turning a profit. The Rec Center News said we had lost $93,000 so far. I realize this is only a "few cups of coffee" for each resident. At least the board members stopped the bleeding.

The last I heard was the "Strike ZOne" was making money and would be paying back all the money invested in cleaning and refurbishing.
Now this.
