The Banner Del E. Webb’s Telephone Reassurance Volunteer Team hosted a holiday party for their 100 community participants on Dec. 3.
During this gathering, participants had a chance to be greeted by the volunteer team that they speak with each and every morning on the telephone. In addition, participants enjoyed holiday treats and music while enjoying a time of fellowship with one another.
“Our Telephone Reassurance Volunteer Team is a very compassionate and caring group,” said Charlotte Confer, volunteer coordinator. “Some members of the team even extend their helping hand to participants throughout the week by helping with shopping or providing assistance in coordinating an appointment or medication pick-up.”
This year during the event, participants were excited to wish five-year program participant Maurine Hill an early 100th birthday.
“This is a wonderful program,” Hill said. “It gets me up in the morning and ready for the day.”
Also in attendance during this party was Hill’s friend and fellow telephone reassurance program participant, Charlotte Cotta.
Cotta has been a participant for more than 11 years.
They shared that they both depend on each other and have become very good friends. They even make sure to speak with each other each night before they go to bed to make sure one another is OK.
Every morning, the Telephone Reassurance Program volunteers talk with participants from the Sun City West, Sun City Grand and Surprise areas who are living alone or with a disabled spouse and don’t have regular contact with anyone outside the home.
If the Telephone Reassurance staff does not hear from the participants every day, a neighbor is called to check on the person. If that fails, the Sun City West Posse or Surprise Fire Department is called for assistance.
