The Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center intensive care unit has been honored with a silver-level Beacon of Excellence Award by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
The Beacon Award recognizes ICUs with quality outcomes, performance improvement, staff engagement and strong leadership.
Units that achieve the award with gold, silver and bronze designations meet national criteria consistent with Magnet Recognition, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the National Quality Healthcare Award.
Banner Del E. Webb’s ICU met several criteria to earn the award including:
• Leadership structures and systems.
• Appropriate staffing and staff engagement.
• Effective communication and best practices.
• Evidence-based practices and processes.
• Patient outcomes.
“The Beacon Award is a prestigious honor that is difficult to attain,” said Sue Kelley, chief nursing officer at Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center. “There are fewer than 200 Beacon ICUs in the United States and only two others in Arizona.”
AACN president Kathryn Roberts said the award “recognizes caregivers in stellar units whose consistent and systematic approach to evidence-based care optimize patient outcomes.”
