Memorabilia auction draws sports celebrities

Northwest Valley sports fans will have a chance to meet sports celebrities and help a good cause at the same time this Friday.

Sun City Grand will sponsor its first sports memorabilia silent auction between 4 and 8 p.m. Friday in the Sage Brush Room at the Sonoran Plaza, 19753 N. Remington Drive, Surprise.

Former baseball player and announcer Joe Garagiola and baseball scout Mel Didier will sign autographed copies of their books.

Former NBA pros Sam Stith and Joe Caldwell also will be on hand to mingle with the crowd.

Admission costs $5.

Proceeds will benefit DreamCatcher Park, which is located on the Surprise Recreation Campus. DreamCatcher Park is the only facility in the West Valley designed specifically to support adaptive recreation programs.

Organizers will serve hors d'oeuvres and complimentary drinks.

Participants will have a chance win numerous door prizes and also bid on up to 200 sports items.
