Smiles of Beauty goes extra inning for victory
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Jim Malde drove in the game-winning run with an eighth-inning sacrifice fly Tuesday as Smiles of Beauty edged Party Planet 15-14 at Del E. Webb Memorial Field during the opening day of Sun City Grand American League softball play.
Malde and John Hammel each went 4-for-4 to lead a 25-hit attack by the winners, who scored twice to tie the game in the seventh inning. Paul Ramos, Larry Patelli and Mike Mathis each had three hits for Smiles of Beauty.
Tony Cuda had four hits and 3 RBI for Smiles of Beauty.
John Shuba, Roy Uecker and Larry Lincoln each had three hits in the loss.

Jerry Feldman and Lee Visker each had four hits as Camino del Sol won the game in five innings via the 10-run mercy rule.
Buck Craig had three hits for the Paul Tone Agency.

Jim Hampton, Ken Krzeminski, Jim Saltzman, Fred Wilkenson and Bill Shanahan each had three hits as Nationwide Insurance scored 16 runs in the last five innings.
Ted Koch made three great defensive plays, including the final putout of the game. Koch sealed the win and thwarted a bases-loaded threat in the final inning with a two-out catch in right-center field.
Jon Nelson went 4-for-4 with 5 RBI for Edward Jones.
Sub Dan Hofeditz went 4-for-4 while Gene Fleck and subs Rick Hofeditz and Roger Neumann each had three hits in the loss.
