Smiles of Beauty goes extra inning for victory

Jim Malde drove in the game-winning run with an eighth-inning sacrifice fly Tuesday as Smiles of Beauty edged Party Planet 15-14 at Del E. Webb Memorial Field during the opening day of Sun City Grand American League softball play.

Malde and John Hammel each went 4-for-4 to lead a 25-hit attack by the winners, who scored twice to tie the game in the seventh inning. Paul Ramos, Larry Patelli and Mike Mathis each had three hits for Smiles of Beauty.
Tony Cuda had four hits and 3 RBI for Smiles of Beauty.

John Shuba, Roy Uecker and Larry Lincoln each had three hits in the loss.

CAMINO DEL SOL 18, PAUL TONE 6
Jerry Feldman and Lee Visker each had four hits as Camino del Sol won the game in five innings via the 10-run mercy rule.
Buck Craig had three hits for the Paul Tone Agency.

IN-LINE CHIROPRACTIC 18
SUE PAHLKE 11

Don Pahlke had three hits as In-Line Chiropractic scored five runs in the first two innings and never looked back.
Tom Terry, Wayne Weidenbach and Lee Visker each had three hits in the win.

TREEDAH MAGEE 24
GLEASON TAX ADVISORY 12

Sub Tony Cuda had five hits with two doubles and a triple while sub Dale VanderKooi had five hits with a homer for Treedah Magee.

Don Nelson had four hits with a homer and Danny Urbansky had three hits with two doubles and a triple in the win.
Ron Kaleta, Larry Chaffin and Sal Politi each had three hits for Treedah Magee, which capitalized on a 31-hit attack.

Every player in the Treedah Magee lineup had at least one hit in the victory.
Sub John Shuba went 4-for-4 for Gleason Tax Advisory.
Bob Boche, Art Solomon and Marlin Campbell each had three hits in the loss.

NATIONWIDE 18
EDWARD JONES 16

Charlie Schulwolf had four hits with a three-run homer as Nationwide Insurance overcame a 9-2 deficit.
Jim Hampton, Ken Krzeminski, Jim Saltzman, Fred Wilkenson and Bill Shanahan each had three hits as Nationwide Insurance scored 16 runs in the last five innings.

Ted Koch made three great defensive plays, including the final putout of the game. Koch sealed the win and thwarted a bases-loaded threat in the final inning with a two-out catch in right-center field.
Jon Nelson went 4-for-4 with 5 RBI for Edward Jones.

Sub Dan Hofeditz went 4-for-4 while Gene Fleck and subs Rick Hofeditz and Roger Neumann each had three hits in the loss.
