Age-shooters' Championship set Dec. 4

November 21, 2008 - 9:40 AM

There's still time to register for the 18th annual Age-shooters' Championship, scheduled to be played Dec. 4 at Lakes West Golf Course, 10433 Talisman Road.

Sponsored by the Daily News-Sun and the Sun City Men's Golf Association, the tournament features a unique scoring format that allows players of all ages to compete on level terms.

Scoring is determined by the player's gross score minus their age.

For example, an 83-year-old who shoots a 79 would finish with a minus-4. An 83-year-old who finishes with an 85 would have a plus-2.

Entry deadline is Nov. 24 for the 18-hole stroke-play event, which will award prizes to at least one-third of the entrants.

There will be competition in three age groups - 70 to 74; 75 to 79; and 80 and over.

The lowest overall age shooter will win $50. The top player in each group also will win $50.

The tournament is open to men of all ages. Entry fee is $15 per person with a $34 green fee for non-annual permit holders.
