Area Parks

Estrella Mountain Regional Park 14805 W. Vineyard Ave., Goodyear.

Park is two miles south of Buckeye Road via Bullard Avenue. It comprises

19,840 acres with limited camping for individuals and groups. There is a

competitive bike track and 33 miles of shared-use trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. There are 10 ramada areas that may be reserved. Each covered ramada area features picnic tables and grills. Restrooms, Playground equipment, two lighted ballfields, an 18-hole golf course and a rodeo arena are also available. White Tank Mountain Regional Park 13025 N. White Tank Mountain Road, Waddell. Park has 29,217 acres, the largest park in the county system. There are 21 miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding.

Family and group campsites are available, as are picnic sites with tables and grills. Ramadas may be reserved for larger groups. Entry fee is $5 per vehicle. For information, call 623-935-2505.

Lake Pleasant Regional Park 41835 N. Castle Hot Springs Road, Morristown. Park has 23,662 acres offering camping and boating opportunities. Lake is approximately 10,000 acres, allowing water skiing, jet skiing, sailing or fishing. There are more than 140 developed sites for RV and tent camping. Day-use picnic areas are first-come, first-serve. Group picnic areas may be reserved in advance. A visitors center offers educational displays and gifts. Cave Creek Regional Park 37019 N. Lava Lane, Cave Creek. Park has

2,922 acres and is located in an area of historical mining exploration and development. Eleven miles of shared-use trails are available for hiking, biking and horseback riding. There are 38 developed campsites for RV and tent camping, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Day-use picnic areas are also first-come, first-serve and have picnic tables and grills. McDowell Mountain Regional Park P.O. Box 18415, Fountain Hills. Park

is located northeast of Scottsdale in the lower Verde Basin. It comprises 21,099 acres and offers three competitive bike tracks as well as 40 miles of shared-use trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. There are 76 developed campsites for RV and tent camping. Three large group camping areas may also be reserved for group day use picnics. There are also 88 day use picnic sites, each with table and grill and nearby playgrounds. Entry fee is $5 per vehicle. For information, call 480-471-0173.

Usery Mountain Regional Park 3939 N. Usery Pass Road, Mesa. Park

encompasses 3,648 acres. Camping areas include 73 individual developed

sites for RV and tent camping as well as two group camping areas. Group

areas do not have RV hookups. Picnic sites include table, grill, water and ramada. Group picnic site is available. Shared-use trails are available for hiking, biking and horseback riding. The archery range offers more than 100 targets on six different courses, as well as hiking trails and picnic areas. Entry fee is $5 per vehicle, archery fee is $5 per archer. Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area 44000 N. Spur Cross Road, Cave Creek. A 2,100 acre ranch recently added to Parks system. The park contains archaeology sites and lush riparian areas along Cave Creek, which flows throughout the winter months. Remnants of early mining and ranching, from which the park gets its name, are still apparent in the park. Wildflowers bloom in the spring. The vegetation present in the conservation area provides a rich habitat for a diverse assemblage of wildlife. For information, call 480-488-6601.

Buckeye Hills Regional Park Located southwest of the town of Buckeye on SR 85. Park consists of 4,474 acres of rolling bench above the south bank of the Gila River. Facilities include 50 picnic sites with tables and cooking grills. No water is available There is a shooting range at the southern end of the recreation area. There is no entry fee at this park. Adobe Dam Regional Park 23280 N 43rd Ave., Glendale. Park is at 43rd Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road, west of I-17. Park is a mixed-use area of non-profit and for profit entities that require a lot of space and often generate a lot of noise. Non-profit groups include Arizona and Phoenix Kart Racing Associations - go-cart racing on dirt and paved tracks; Arizona Model Pilots Society - remote controlled airplanes and a scale airport with landing strip; and Maricopa Live Steamers - model railroaders. For profit enterprises are: Victory Lane Sports Complex, Waterworld Safari Aquatic Park and 500 Club, an 18-hole championship golf course. For information, call 623-465-0431.

San Tan Mountain Regional ParkConsisting of over 10,000 acres, the southeast Valley park is an example of the lower Sonoran Desert. The park ranges in elevation from about 1,400 feet to over 2,500 feet. Goldmine Mountain is located in the northern area, with a San Tan Mountain escarpment in the southern portion of the park. The vegetation changes from creosote flats to dense saguaro forest. Various types of wildlife may be observed, including reptiles, birds, and mammals. Amenities are slated for future development.
