Hikers, cyclists and equestrians are invited to attend the Oct. 15 grand opening of New River Trail, a 9½-mile path in Peoria.

The grand opening will run from 8 a.m. to noon.

Five comfort stations will be set up along the trail, which runs continuously from Olive Avenue to Williams Road. Trail enthusiasts never have to cross vehicular traffic.

During the grand opening, cyclists can have their bikes checked, tires filled with air and possibly receive a free helmet at one of the comfort stations.

Participants who need to drive to the trail, which runs from southwest Peoria to the northeast, can park at Rio Vista Community Park, 8866 W. Thunderbird Road. For information, call 623-773-7137 or visit www.peoriaaz.gov/hikingtrails.
