A 2-year-old Peoria boy died Monday after his neck became tangled in the handle of a bag.
Police officers responded to a home in the 13000 block of North 81st Avenue after receiving a call at about 4:45 p.m., said Amanda Jacinto, spokeswoman for the Peoria police and fire departments. Officers were met by the occupant of the home, a mother of 2-year-old twins.
She told police she put her son and daughter down for an afternoon nap in their toddler beds and when she returned to wake them up she found the boy with the plastic handle of a comforter storage bag around his neck.
Emergency crews arrived a short time later and transported the boy to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“The case is under investigation,” Jacinto said. “But as of now it appears that this was a tragic accident.”
