Open letter to all SCW board members: Unless you’re all non-golfers, how could you let a perfectly good computerized tee-time placement system go from good to pathetic?
Although such a good system didn’t exist when I started playing on SCW’s only championship course, Pebblebrook, back in 1984, I was delighted with the eventual computerized system that emerged a few years ago. Never did our foursome have a problem with the system; a brief call to 544-6044 brought us immediate info on where, when and who we would be playing with on what day and at what time for an entire week, whether the call was placed even as late as 11 p.m.
Now, we’re fumbling around by having to call any of our seven courses and asking one of the very busy starter personnel to look up a possible tee time based on our individual rec card numbers. If you’re lucky, you learn you have a time or no time at all at the course you wanted between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. or later.
When you talk to Golf Operation personnel, you’re advised that the old efficient system was not compatible with SCW’s new computer system. Further, that they are aware of the problems; that a possible single central call-in number may be forthcoming. When? We need something that works, right now!
Since our foursome of old-timers still uses the paper tee-time request forms we place in “request” boxes at least a week or two beforehand, we’re playing a guessing game that’s more senseless than sane. Moreso, many of we oldsters are not computer owners nor savvy geniuses with possible email notices or other board-generated electronic solutions.
Thus, if you can spend tons of our money for fancy landscaping projects and/or big long-term loans to a car club, perhaps you can reconsider spending a few more bucks to make your new computer get more friendly with our long-standing golf community.
Can do? We hope so!
