Police have identified the suspect in a fatal shooting this morning in Youngtown where a mother was slain and left to die on a street.
The suspect is Manuel Julio Alcantar, 35, police said. He remains at large.
Dozens of law enforcement units from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Public Safety swarmed Youngtown streets this morning and surrounded a home where they believed the suspect was holed up. Police discovered the man was not in the home, which they believe is where the victim lived with her children.
The incident began about 6:30 a.m. when a domestic dispute between a man and woman spilled out onto the street at 112th Avenue and Montana, said Lindsey Smith, an MCSO spokeswoman. Youngtown police said law enforcement officials found a female lying in the street, bleeding profusely. The fire department responded, but she died at the scene. Officers secured the area and turned the investigation over to MCSO homicide detectives.
Elise Tillery, who lives on Duluth, one street over from where the incident occurred, said she heard screams, then three gun shots.
"I couldn't believe it," Tillery said. "Those screams and the sound of the gun was just horrifying to hear to all that, it was almost surreal."
Smith said "several methods" were used in the killing. The suspect left the unidentified woman in the street and fled. Police said they believe the home
MCSO contained the area and are looking for the suspect, according to Smith.
