A woman who was slain in Youngtown Wednesday morning had filed a complaint against her husband the previous day, police said.

Lt. Duren Robertson, a Youngtown Police spokesman, said the woman, Sabrina Alcantar, 32, reported Tuesday the man had assaulted and made threats against her more than a week ago.

The woman was left to die at 112th and Montana avenues after being shot.

The suspect is still at large. Police are searching for the suspect, Manuel Julio Alcantar, 35.

Police said Alcantar is considered armed and dangerous. He has a history of assault and has served time in the Department of Corrections for violent crimes, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m., when a domestic dispute between a man and a woman spilled out onto the street, said Lindsey Smith, an MCSO spokeswoman.

Youngtown law enforcement officials found Sabrina Alcantar lying in the street, bleeding profusely. The fire department responded, but she died at the scene. Authorities said "several methods" were used in the killing.

Officers secured the area and turned the investigation over to MCSO homicide detectives.

Later, dozens of law enforcement units from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Public Safety swarmed Youngtown streets and surrounded a home where they believed Alcantar was holed up.

But police discovered he was not in the home, which they believe is where the couple lived with their children.

Stan Smith lived across the street from the couple but said he didn't notice any unusual activity. He said the two were new to the street and recently had moved in.

"I know that they just got in that house," said Smith. "And that's not uncommon because that particular house has been a rental for years, and I've seen so many people come and go over the years since I've lived on this street."

Elise Tillery, who lives on Duluth, one street over from where the incident occurred, said she heard screams, then three gun shots.

"I couldn't believe it," Tillery said. "Those screams and the sound of the gun was just horrifying to hear all that, it was almost surreal."

Marion Wallace, who lives a block away from the shooting, said she noticed a woman driving up to the area who might have been a family member.

"The woman was probably a family member because she got out of the car, got up to the crime tape, noticed what was going on and screamed ‘Oh my God,'" said Wallace. "What a terrible thing to have to see for anyone."
