5 NW Valley artists open homes, studios

Ceramicist Phyllis Stringer of Sun City and four other Northwest Valley artists will open their homes and studios for the West Valley Arts Council’s third annual West Valley Home Art & Studio Tour Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ticket prices are $25 each for the self-guided tour, which takes patrons through five homes in Peoria, Sun City, Sun City West and Glendale.

A pre-tour reception will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Tickets are $40 and include a special preview party at Sangria Luxe Lounge at the Citadelle Plaza in Glendale as well as tour admission Sunday.

"Each home is an amazing display of a lifetime of creating and collecting," said Julie Richard, president and CEO of the West Valley Arts Council.

Stringer’s home is decorated with not only her art but also the works of several different people, including her late husband, who carved Kachinas, which Stringer decorated.

Displays occupy every room, ranging from paintings to pottery to carvings.

In addition to viewing collections of art, patrons will enjoy artist demonstrations, conversations and the chance to purchase artwork directly from the artists.

Artists for the tour are painters Charles Ramer of Peoria, Nancy Christy-Moore and Cyndy Carstens of Glendale; bronze sculptor Pat Mathiesen of Sun City West; and Stringer.

"This tour is a wonderful way to bring together our local artists, neighbors and community members," Richard said. "The West Valley is home to established and emerging painters, photographers, sculptors and this event is a great way to expose these creative talents."

For information or to purchase tickets, call the West Valley Arts Council at 623-935-6384 or visit the Web site at www.westvalleyarts.org.
