Powerball ticket sold in Glendale wins $200,000 prize

Even though a single Powerball ticket sold in Florida had all six winning numbers for the $189 million jackpot on Saturday, Arizona fared well with one ticket that matched all five white ball numbers to win the second prize of $200,000.

As of noon Monday, the ticket still had not been claimed.

The retailer that sold the second prize ticket is the Fry’s Food Store at 6625 W. Happy Valley Road in Glendale. The winning ticket was the only one in the state to win the second prize by matching all five white ball numbers — and one of just three tickets in the country to win the second prize. Saturday’s winning numbers were 12, 24, 48, 50, 57 and the Powerball was 22.

“In a week’s time, we had four second-prize Powerball tickets sold right here in Arizona,” said Jeff Hatch-Miller, executive director for the Arizona Lottery. “I encourage everyone who participated in Saturday’s drawing to check their tickets; they may hold a $200,000 prize.”

Three days earlier, on Sept. 30, two Powerball tickets sold in Arizona for that drawing matched all five white ball numbers for the second prize. Still unclaimed, those tickets were purchased at the Safeway at 520 W. Osborn Road in Phoenix and the Circle K at 1880 W. University Drive in Tempe. The winning numbers for that drawing were 41, 42, 52, 54, 57, and the Powerball was 30.

Arizona also had another second prize ticket from the Sept. 26 drawing. That ticket has since been claimed.

Because the Powerball was hit on Saturday, the jackpot returns to $20 million for Wednesday’s drawing.

The drawings are broadcast during the 10 p.m. news on Channel 15 (ABC) in Phoenix, Channel 13 (CBS) in Tucson, and in Spanish on Univision Arizona. Powerball is played in 30 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Players can also check their numbers by logging onto arizonalottery.com or by calling the winning numbers hot lines at 480-829-PICK in Phoenix and 1-800-499-3798 in all other Arizona areas.
