Catherine Anaya, a news anchor for KPHO CBS 5 News, talks to seventh-graders at Luke Elementary School in Glendale Monday about her career, interests and writing.

Besides her anchor job, Anaya writes for magazines and is a marathon runner who has run in the Boston Marathon.

She told the students to, "Write from the heart and things you feel passionate about."

When talking about her marathon running, she said, "Age is just a number. It's never too late to do anything you set your mind to. Don't dwell on the negative. Physical fitness isn't just about looking good, its about feeling good."

When a student asked Anaya about obstacles, she said, "I've learned with age that obstacles are really opportunities."

Anaya, who has been a news anchor for 19 years, said, "An education will give you an option of deciding what you want to do. You can be a janitor because you want to, not because you have to."
