Tangled Strings kicks off free concert series

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Phoenix-based Tangled Strings Bluegrass Band will kick off the Rec Centers’ free Concert in the Park Series at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 in Beardsley Park, 12755 W. Beardsley Road.

The group’s music is a mix of hard-driving bluegrass, three-part harmonies, arrangements and some original songs. Drawing from traditional influences such as Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs and the Stanley Brothers, they also are inspired by more progressive bluegrass bands similar to Seldom Scene and the Gibson Brothers.

The free series continues Oct. 11 with the Desert City Six, which performs traditional jazz; and Oct. 18 with the Roadrunners, who will provide vocals and instrumentals from the 1950s and 1960s. Wrapping things up will be the Desert Winds Steel Drum Orchestra Oct. 25.

No tickets are required to attend, but bring a chair or blanket to be comfortable on the lawn. The concession stands will be open beginning at 5 p.m. with a variety of food and beverages, including brats, hamburgers, hot dogs, beverages, chips and cookies, available at nominal prices.
