Mountain View granted solar fun
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Mountain View School was recently awarded an APS/Phoenix Suns Energy Exploration Mini-Grant for the project, Solar Fun, in the amount of $2,265.
Although APS grants typically cover 25 percent of the total project budget for equipment, an exception is being made for this grant due to the project.
Project Solar Fun is the exploration of solar power properties and use by sixth-grade students. Mountain View sixth-graders are introduced, through mathematics and science, to the beginning concepts of solar energy.
Students study solar energy, how energy is stored, how energy is transferred, how energy is converted and possible uses of solar energy in the community.
Project Solar Fun also takes student learning a step further. It introduces students to the benefits Arizona enjoys because of solar power and how the community can apply solar power to everyday lives.
Project Solar Fun invites students to be apply what they know about solar power to build a project completely powered through solar energy.
Project Solar Fun will have the ability to be reused by students entering the sixth grade to learn about the importance of solar energy.
