MCDOT outlines El Mirage Road construction Monday

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation will have an open house to discuss the construction of a new 4-mile stretch of El Mirage Road between Bell Road and Deer Valley Drive on the border of Sun City West and Surprise.

The pre-construction open house will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Surprise Elementary School, 12907 W. Greenway Road, and is open to the public.

MCDOT officials will discuss the project, which will begin in January and connect Bell Road and Loop 303. The road will be placed between existing road alignment and the Agua Fria River channel.

Temporary closures or lane restrictions will be likely during the project, but access will be maintained for residents and emergency vehicles. When finished, the project will be a four-lane divided roadway that includes bike lanes and a center median. It will be finished with rubberized asphalt surface, MCDOT officials said.

Construction will take about eight months and may occur from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The new roadway is slated to open by August.

For information about the project, call 480-350-9288.
