SCAT seeks tribal grant
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Maricopa County has submitted a grant application to the Gila River Indian Community on behalf of Sun Cities Area Transit for a project titled Seniors Day Out.
The request for $10,000 is to help cover the costs for transporting residents of Sun City, Sun City West and Youngtown to the recreational centers in their communities.
Gila River vehicles provide transportation between the recreational centers and the casinos, while SCAT Dial-A-Ride services transport residents between their homes and the recreational centers.
Maricopa County Supervisor Max Wilson, R-District 4, is supportive of the request for supplemental funding.
"We aim to assist county residents as we can to enhance quality of life," he said. "We have a good relationship with the Gila River Indian Community and this is another project where we can help one another."
Friday was the deadline to submit the grant proposal. The community is expected to respond to all submitted proposals sometime in the fall.
