Drivers wanted to transport Peoria police vehicles
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Peoria Police Department needs help maintaining its vehicles and is asking for the community’s assistance.
However, no car maintenance skills are required; the department needs volunteers to help shuttle the vehicles from the stations to the city maintenance facility.
The police said volunteers are vital to the daily operations of the department because it ensures the vehicles get necessary servicing in a timely manner and are available for officers when they come to work.
Having volunteers on board will also free up officers, so they can patrol neighborhoods and answer calls for service from the community rather than transporting the vehicles themselves.
Volunteers must:
• Be at least 18 years old.
• Have no felony convictions or misdemeanors involving moral turpitude.
• A valid Arizona driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, without criminal traffic violations within the last three years.
• Be available for contact by phone.
• Successfully pass a background check. The extent may vary depending on the assignment.
• Be able to donate at least eight hours per month as a volunteer.
Anyone interested can obtain an application at www.peoriaaz.gov/police by way of the "GET INVOLVED" link, or at the Peoria Public Safety Administration Building, 8351 W. Cinnabar Ave.
For information, call the Peoria Police Community Relations Section at 623-773-7099.
The Peoria Police report that in 2007, 20 volunteers donated 5,955 hours of service to Peoria, saving taxpayers nearly $104,519.
