El Mirage Police arrested an 18-year-old man Thursday after he drew a gun on an officer in the Sundial III neighborhood.

Trevone Taylor of Phoenix was booked into Maricopa County Jail on a count of aggravated assault on a police officer and two counts of burglary.

No one was injured in the confrontation, said Bill Louis, El Mirage assistant police chief. Taylor was taken into custody near the 12800 block of West Paradise Drive, south of the intersection of Dysart and Cactus roads.

Louis said a witness spotted a man around 10:30 a.m. attempting to burglarize a home. Police tried to apprehend the suspect, but he pulled a gun on one of the officers.

The officer fired a shot at Taylor but missed. Taylor fled on foot into the neighborhood, where police apprehended him 20 minutes later.

The officer involved in the shooting was El Mirage Police Sgt. Bill Whalen. He has been with the El Mirage Police Department for 10 months, but has more than 25 years of law enforcement experience in Arizona.

Surprise Police aided in the man's capture.
