El Mirage police arrest vandalism suspect

El Mirage police arrested a 25-year-old man Sunday night, who they believe vandalized the city municipal court building with shoe polish.

Alex Misael Garcia was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail in Phoenix, said El Mirage Assistant Police Chief Bill Louis.

At 9:44 p.m., officers were called to the court building at El Mirage and Thunderbird roads with a report of vandalism in progress. When they arrived, almost every window and door had gang letters written in shoe polish.

Louis said police determined the letters were related to a California-based gang, however, "there was no indication that the suspect had any affiliations with a gang."

Police searched the area and found Garcia in a park just south of the complex. Police said he had a container of shoe polish and had shoe polish on his hands.
