Daily News-Sun

Luke Air Force Base will be among the topics discussed today in El Mirage during a Quality of Life and Sustainability Forum.

The session moderated by former U.S Congressman Matt Salmon, who was recently retained by El Mirage as a consultant, will be at 7 p.m. at Riverview Elementary School, 12701 N. Main St.

Topics will include a review of historical and current topics related to Luke Air Force Base and the city, a discussion about the city’s economic development opportunities, a review of the F-35 fighter jet and various considerations being made by El Mirage and other cities, and a discussion of the quality of life and sustainability of El Mirage.

"It’s critical that we communicate directly with our residents," said Mayor Michele Kern. "This will be the first, in what will likely be a number, of informational public meetings about our most impactful neighbor, Luke Air Force Base, as well as ways to have both El Mirage and the base coexist peacefully and productively." Preferential seating will be given to El Mirage residents and business owners. Following informational presentations, questions submitted by attendees will be posed to participants.
