Hoffmann drops out of RCSC election
Comments 0 | Recommend 0RCSC Board of Directors candidate Warren Hoffmann has withdrawn from the upcoming election.
Hoffmann, who is serving as board president during the final year of his term, made the announcement at Monday's Meet the Candidates Forum.
He cited his hearing as the main factor in deciding not to seek another term. “How can I function as a board member if I can’t hear?” he said. “I felt if I couldn’t function, how could I represent the people of Sun City?”
Hoffmann is finishing up a three-year term on the board.
Hoffmann’s withdrawal leaves four candidates for four open seats on the board: Jim Bishop, Vance Coleman, Phil Cook and Carey Shore. Although there are four candidates and four open seats, officials said, RCSC members are still encouraged to vote because one of the seats is a one-year term, and the candidate who receives the fewest votes will serve the one-year term.
Early voting is slated for Nov. 27-28 at Sundial Center. Election Day is Dec. 8. For more election details visit www.sunaz.com or call 623-561-4600.
Following is a statement issued by Hoffmann:
"On Monday, November 9, I withdrew as a candidate for the 2010 Board of Directors of Recreation Centers of Sun City, Inc. My reasoning is two-fold: a hearing handicap which greatly restricts my ability to understand what is transpiring, and a problem with my voice which interferes with my ability to communicate.
I greatly regret having to withdraw as a candidate but it is in the best interests of RCSC and the Board of Directors. The remaining candidates, I feel confident, will serve with fiscal responsibility while maintaining the quality of all the RCSC facilities.
I would be remiss if I did not recognize both management, the Board of Directors and the employees of RCSC for the wonderful job each has accomplished while I have served on the Board.
-Warren Hoffmann"
