Luke AFB officer dies from swine flu complications
Comments 0 | Recommend 0GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Preliminary autopsy results from the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office show a Luke Air Force Base military officer died last week following complications related to the swine flu.
Authorities say Staff Sgt. Shawn J. Rankin died Oct. 4 at his home in Glendale.
Base officials say the 25-year-old Rankin was diagnosed with swine flu but there were other complications, so it was in conjunction with another disease.
Rankin wasn't diagnosed with swine flu until after he died, once an autopsy was performed.
He had been assigned to the 56th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and served as an F-16 crew chief at Luke since February 2008. Rankin had served in the Air Force since 2003.
