PHOENIX - In an attempt to save the city $1.6 million, the Glendale police union says it will give up raises and some holiday pay.
The Glendale Police Officer's Coalition agreed to forgo 5 percent raises for fiscal year 2009-10.
Officers also agreed to work about half of the year's holidays without additional holiday compensation.
The coalition represents about 365 sworn officers and sergeants.
The Glendale City Council approved its new budget on June 23, making the concessions official.
Negotiations for the 2010-11 contract begin in October.
Glendale firefighters gave up about $600,000 worth of retirement-plan contributions and uniform allowances to help the city balance its budget.
