IRS provides help for late stimulus requests

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

More than 2,000 Sun Citians have yet to file for their economic stimulus payment, but the Internal Revenue Service said there is time.

Bill Brunson, an IRS spokesman, said 1,583 Sun Citians and 512 Sun City West residents can still receive the rebate.

The IRS will offer help to those who need to file tax returns from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Estrella Room of the Avondale Community Center, 1007 S. Third St.

Free help is available to individuals who have at least $3,000 in earnings and/or benefits from Social Security, VA disability or a Retired Railroad Worker's pension and normally do not file income taxes. Trained volunteers will be available to answer questions about the economic stimulus payment and file a 2007 federal income tax return.

Residents must bring photo identification of themselves, Social Security numbers for each person listed on the tax return, all 2007 statements showing SSA, VA or Railroad Retirement benefits paid, all wage and earnings statements and any other information concerning income and expenses for 2007.

If married, both spouses must be present to sign the tax form.
