Local photogs score cover shots
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A trio of photographers in the Sun Cities will have their images forever stamped in a very prominent place.
Photographs taken by Sun City resident Charliss McCall, Sun City West resident Edgar Gutweniger and Sun City Grand resident Julie Stortz were selected to represent the new AT&T Yellow and White Pages directories for their communities.
McCall has been an amateur photographer nearly all her life and is “always taking pictures of clouds or whatever.” She said her picture of random flowers in a neighbor’s front yard is a good representation of the beautiful community she has lived in for nearly 15 years.
“I think it represents the community real well. The community is kept up so nice here it’s easy to find some pictures of things in people’s yards,” she said. “I think it’s such a wonderful program (and) I was very excited to win.”
AT&T represenatatives said the individualized covers highlight the uniqueness of the Sun Cities.
“We are proud to feature these photographs on the cover of our new directories for the Sun City area,” said Terry Lutrick, manager methods and procedures, AT&T advertising solutions. “We continually work to make our directory covers special on the outside and tailor the community information inside our directories to best meet the needs of local residents and businesses.”
The directories are celebrating their 50th year of catering to the Sun City community and are sponsored by the Sun City Home Owners Association and Property Owners and Residents Association in Sun City West.
Each cover features the photograph taken by the respective resident of the community it represents, as well as a collage of other photographs that have been featured on the cover in the past, resulting in a unique cover that captures both history and present times.
“We combined the winning photograph with historical photographs taken over the past several years,” Lutrick said. “Instead of just having a single image on the covers, we wanted to capture a sense of history each of these communities has experienced.”
More than 77,000 directories will be delivered to businesses and residents between Nov. 2 and Nov. 30. The directories are passed out to residents of the Sun Cities by various local clubs and organizations including the Lions Club, Kiwanis Club and Grand Stitchers.
