Arrowhead CC welcomes state's top amateur golfers

July 2, 2009 - 11:35 AM

Arrowhead Country Club in Glendale will play host to one of several statewide local qualifying events in the third McGladrey Team Championship, a nationwide best-ball amateur championship operated by The PGA of America.

The qualifier will be July 26 at Arrowhead.

Teams that advance through local and section qualifying will have the opportunity to participate in the national championship, scheduled in October at Pinehurst, N.C.

Amateur players will receive 75 percent of their course handicap allowance, based on the course and tees being played in the event.

Local qualifiers will use the best net ball of the three amateur players and each player's score must be used on a minimum of three holes.

Local qualifers that feature at least 18 teams will advance two teams to the section championship. If fewer than 18 teams compete in the local qualifer, one team will advance to the section championship.

The section championships and national championship will feature the host PGA pro, who will complete the foursome.

The 41-team, 164-player field in the national championship will compete for a $200,000 purse, with amateurs receving gift certificates. The field will compete on three of Pinehurst's premier layouts, opening at No. 8 and concluding the final two days on courses No. 2 and No. 4.
