Olive Branch reaches out to community in July
Banner Olive Branch Senior Center is continuing its free community outreach with a variety of educational programs in July. All programs are in the dining room of the senior center, 11250 N. 107th Ave. in Sun City, adjacent to the United Church of Sun City. Reservations are encouraged. Call 623-974-6797.
• Stroke: Are you at risk? - Thursday, July 16 at 10:15 a.m.
Dr. Scott Agran, neuroradiologist at Banner Boswell and Banner Del E. Webb medical centers, will be discussing stroke prevention, risk factors, and signs and symptoms of stroke. Dr. Agran is the founder of the StrokeCheck program, a nonprofit organization created to encourage physicians, hospitals, and community service groups to perform stroke screenings. Through the StrokeCheck program, more than 15,000 people have received free stroke screenings and education in Arizona and the western United States. Agran recently was named as a finalist in the 2009 Health Care Heroes Awards for his efforts to educate the community about stroke prevention.
• Secrets to Healthy Aging - Thursday, July 23 at 10:30 a.m.
Kathy O'Connor, longevity project coordinator at Banner Health's Sun Health Research Institute, will discuss the factors involved in successful aging and their interrelationships based upon the latest research. Learn about some of the initial findings on healthier living and longevity from the Longevity Project: Learning from our Elders and find out how to get involved.

Home improvement expert Rosie Romero will speak about caring for your house and answer your questions. Romero's radio talk show "Rosie on the House" airs Saturdays on KTAR.
• Sheriff Joe Arpaio - Wednesday, July 29 at 10:30 a.m.
Also known as "America's Toughest Sheriff," Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been head of the nation's third largest sheriff's office since 1993. Hear about some of Arpaio's experiences in his 48 years in law enforcement.
