Recreation Centers of Sun City West governing board President Matt Szydlowski, Treasurer Norm Bunas and Director Flora Capps sat for the last time at the dais Thursday, as the three outgoing board members were recognized for their dedication and efforts.

Szydlowski and Bunas served on the board since 2006, while Capps was appointed last year.

The directors, whose terms end Tuesday, received plaques and were applauded by association staff, residents in attendance and remaining board members.

"It's is an honor for me ... in thanking our three outgoing directors," Vice President Ginger Welch said. "But it comes with some sadness because we hate to see them go and will encourage them to stay in touch. Hopefully, they'll be able to enjoy some well-deserved free time."

The outgoing board members expressed appreciation for staff, family members and other directors.

"Thank you for your support, but I do leave you in great hands with the new governing board," Szydlowski said.

Ron Gillmeister will begin his role as board president when the board reconvenes in September. Scott Ellis will fill the treasurer's post. Rounding out the board officers are Dave Moeller as vice president and Karyl Brandvold as secretary.

"President Ron Gillmeister, I wish you and the new board great success," Szydlowski said. "Remember, first and foremost, your dedication to the Recreation Centers of Sun City West."

The next workshop meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 11 in the R.H. Johnson Lecture Hall, 19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd.
