Burglars entered four Surprise homes early this morning and stole wallets, purses, jewelry and electronic equipment while the homeowners slept, police said.

Police said they believe the crimes in the West Point community may be the work of the same criminals who struck five homes earlier this month in Litchfield Manor and Copper Canyon.

This time, the homes burglarized were in the 16100 block of North 138th Drive, the 13800 block of West Lundberg Street, the 16200 block of North 138th Drive and the 16200 block of North 137th Drive, police said, adding the burglars entered through unlocked sliding rear doors.

"We can't stress just how important it is to  secure your homes while you sleep," Surprise Police Chief Daniel Hughes said.

Hughes said police are finding that homeowners are locking their homes when they go to work but fail to do so at night before they go to bed.

Anyone with information about these crimes are asked to call the Surprise Police Department, 623-222-4243 or 623-222-4000.
