John J. Morris American Legion joins Make a Difference Day

John J. Morris American Legion Auxiliary Unit 62 of Peoria is participating in Make a Difference Day today. John J. Morris American Legion Unit 62 involvement is three-fold this year. Unit 62 initiatives involve the community, children, veterans and their families. One initiative is Operation Kids at Luke Air Force Base, where 250 children of military members participate in a one-day mock operation. The operation includes boot camp, deployment and debriefing. The Surprise branch of St. Mary’s Food Bank donated supplies in support of John J. Morris Unit 62’s Make A Difference Day efforts and Operation Kids. A second initiative is an ice cream social for The Fountains Retirement Center. More than 60 residents will receive a Snuggie for the upcoming cooler weather. More than 45 of these residents are military veterans. The third initative is collecting donations for Ronald McDonald House and Phoenix Children’s Hospital. John J. Morris Unit raises funds through a champagne brunch for the members of John J. Morris Post 62 Family. Unit 62 Chairman Judy Blake has registered these efforts with the national "Make a Difference Day" Web site.
