‘Adventures in Parrotdise' plays in Beardsley Park
Comments 0 | Recommend 0“Adventures in Parrotdise, A Tribute to Jimmy Buffett” plays in Beardsley Park at 7 p.m. Nov. 1.
The park is at 12755 W. Beardsley Road. The public is invited. Tickets are available at the Sun City West Box Office, open between 8 and 11:30 a.m. weekdays in the R.H. Johnson Administrative Offices. Tickets are $10 for residents, $11 for nonresidents and $12 at the gate.
Jimmy Buffett is the world’s most famous beach bum and has marketed his love of beaches, bars, boats and ballads into a billion-dollar business. Along with an outstanding musical career, he is a best-selling author and restaurateur. His fans, known as Parrotheads, can be found everywhere.
Barrie Cunningham has been performing Buffett’s music almost as long as Buffett himself. He has also traveled many of the same roads and even played at some of the same places. He takes the showgoer on a musical tour of Buffett’s road to fame and fortune. He sings all the songs Buffett has made famous, including “Come Monday,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes” and, of course, the national anthem of all Parrotheads, “Margaritaville.” He also performs some of Buffett’s other recorded songs like “Brown-Eyed Girl,” “Southern Cross” and “It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere.”
Jimmy Buffett Coral Reefer Band members Fingers Taylor and Roger Bartlett join Cunningham and his band to make this the most authentic Buffett show anywhere. Other Coral Reefer Band members who may appear include TC Mitchell, Amy Lee, Doyle Grishma, Mike Utley, Robert Greenidge, Tina, Gullickson Nadirah Shakoor, Mac McAnally and possibly others, depending on their tour schedule with Buffett. According to these Coral Reefers, being in Adventures in Parrotdise is the next best thing to being at one of Jimmy Buffett’s concerts.
Concession stands will have hot dogs, brats, hamburgers, shredded barbecue chicken sandwiches, chips, popcorn and more available at nominal prices beginning at 5 p.m., so plan to arrive early and enjoy dinner in the park before the concert. No outside food will be allowed in the park; coolers will be permitted if they fit under your chair. You are welcome to bring a chair or blanket to sit on during the show.
