Sun Health tributes make lasting impression on caring women

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Sun Health offers a way to honor women on Mother's Day and throughout the year with the Women Who Care program, which supports the Sun Health Foundation.

The program is a way to honor special women as a gift on Mother's Day or any time of year. For a donation at the $125 level and higher, a tribute includes a color photo and a heartfelt personal message. Donations support women's health services at Sun Health Boswell and Del E. Webb hospitals.

Sun City West resident Joan Worsham is one of the women who has been honored.

Worsham is a retired Sun Health Foundation employee, who devoted 19 years in support of local health care and introduced meaningful giving opportunities that included Women Who Care. In addition to her involvement in the program professionally, she and her family also honored several generations of her relatives.

When the program launched in 2004, Worsham and her two sisters each wrote something they treasured about their mother, Dorothy McCullar, who lived in Mesa. What followed was their presentation of a treasured gift - a loving and lasting tribute accompanied by her photo - at www.sunhealthfoundation.org. They remember to this day how their mother shed a tear when they gave her a printed page showing her color photo and the loving words of her daughters.

When Worsham's daughter, Pamela Hellestrae, witnessed her grandmother's delight, she was inspired to honor her mother in this way. In her tribute, she included words about how much her mother's guidance meant to her as she became a mother herself.

"I encourage every person in Sun City, Sun City West, Surprise, Peoria and surrounding communities to take a moment to visualize the love you can express and how much that will mean to a Woman Who Cares," Worsham said. "This special gift can bring the biggest smile and fondest memories to the woman of your life ... be it a mother or grandmother, sister, daughter, best friend, nurse, physician or mentor."
