Memorial Day ceremony highlights veterans’ contributions

Arizona Secretary of State Jane Brewer will be the keynote speaker for the annual Northwest Valley Veterans Association Memorial Day Ceremony at 9 a.m. May 26 at Sunland Memorial Park, 15826 Del Webb Blvd. in Sun City.

This year's program features the Desert Brass Band, Greenway High School JROTC, honor guard for the Mary Ellen Piotrowski American Legion Post 94 and a three-volley rifle salute in memory of departed veterans. The public is invited and may bring lawn chairs as well as blankets. Music by the Desert Brass Band begins at 8:30 a.m. before the ceremony.

The event is sponsored by the Northwest Valley Veterans Association and includes American Legion Posts 62, 94, 96 and 101; Amercian Ex-Prisoners of War; Veterans of World War I Barracks 1144; Military Order of the World Wars, Sun City chapter 131; Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts 2135 and 10695; Military Order of the Purple Heart, Michael Mahoney Chapter 691; Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 24; Air Force Sergeants Association Chapter 1260, West Valley chapter; Northwest Valley Korean War Veterans and Marine Corps League White Tank Mountain Detachment 1246, Honorary Members Dignity Memorial Cemetery.
