Associated Press

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — The discovery of a skull by a family dog has led Pima County authorities to search for human remains northwest of Tucson.

Pima County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Dawn Barkman said a 911 call was received around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday by someone saying their dog had brought home a human skull.

Barkman said the skull was found to have what she described as some unnatural defects.

The Pima County Medical Examiner's Office was unable to determine a cause of death from the skull.

The Arizona Daily Star Web site reports the department's search and rescue and homicide units plan to spend part of Tuesday searching the area to see if additional remains can be located.
