Surprise announces final 4 tennis champs to appear in tourney

Surprise Community and Recreation Services Department released the final four players and tournament schedule for the inaugural Cancer Treatment Centers of America Tennis Championships, presented by Sanderson Volvo.

John McEnroe, Jim Courier, Todd Martin and Wayne Ferreira were the first four players to be confirmed for the professional tennis tournament in Surprise, which is an official tour stop on the Outback Champions Series. The Cancer Treatment Centers of America Tennis Championships will feature eight tennis champions, who will compete for $150,000 in prize money and the inaugural title. The final four professional tennis players scheduled to compete are: 

• Anders Jarryd: 67 career titles, eight Grand Slam titles in Doubles, reached the World No. 1 ranking in doubles and a career-high singles ranking of World No. 5.

• Mark Philippoussis: 11 career titles, Davis Cup Winner, Grand Slam finalist and star of reality TV show "Age of Love."

• Mikael Pernfors: four career titles, French Open and Davis Cup finalist.

• Jimmy Arias: U.S. Open finalist, career-high ranking of World No. 5 and youngest player ever to achieve a world ranking.

The Cancer Treatment Centers of America Tennis Championships, which will be Nov. 5-9, consists of seven sessions with two matches per session. The tournament schedule is as follows:

Session 1:        Wednesday       Nov. 5 @ 6:30pm   Martin v Pernfors / Courier v Jarryd

Session 2:        Thursday           Nov. 6 @ 6:30pm   Philippoussis v Ferreira / McEnroe v Arias

Session 3:        Friday               Nov. 7 @ 2 pm       Ferreira v Pernfors / Martin v Philippoussis

Session 4:        Friday               Nov.7 @ 7 pm        McEnroe v Jarryd / Courier v Arias

Session 5:        Saturday           Nov. 8 @ Noon       Jarryd v Arias / Courier v McEnroe

Session 6:        Saturday           Nov. 8 @ 5 pm       Philippoussis v Pernfors / Martin v Ferreira

Session 7:        Sunday             Nov. 9 @ Noon       3rd Place and Championship Matches
