Surprise has all the sports you want this fall

The Surprise Community and Recreation Services Department is gearing up for another season of Cal Ripken T-ball for boys and girls ages 5-6 years old.

This program focuses on learning the basic fundamentals and skills associated with the game of baseball in an atmosphere where participation and fun are top priority. All games will be played at the Youth Baseball Complex at 15565 N. Parkview Place or the 8-Acre multi-purpose field, 15850 N. Bullard Ave. The league will begin in early November.

Resident registration is Sept. 8-20, with Sept. 20 being special Saturday registration for Surprise residents at the Community and Recreation Services Office from 8-11 a.m. Late and nonresident registration will be Sept. 22-26. Registration is also available online at www.surpriseaz.com/recreation. The fee is $40 for residents, $50 for late residents and $65 for nonresidents.  

Surprise also is looking for volunteer coaches. If you are interested, fill out a volunteer application and get fingerprinted at the Surprise Community and Recreation Services office, 15960 N. Bullard Ave. For information, contact the Youth Sports Division at 623-222-2000 or check www.surpriseaz.com/recreation.

Surprise Community and Recreation Services Department is offering a new drop-in doubles tennis program for players rated NTRP 4.0 and higher. Duel Doubles will begin Sept. 7 and will run from 8 to 11 a.m. every Sunday at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex, 14469 W. Paradise Lane.

This program is designed for experienced doubles players who are looking for strong competitive play. Duel Doubles will follow a challenge court format where players can challenge the winner of a court by signing up. The player that wins gets to stay on the court and continue playing. Players will be allowed to remain on a court for two rounds then they must re-register and challenge again.

Duel Doubles is for players 18 years and older. The fee for the program is $3 for residents and $4 for nonresidents.

Another season of Surprise Youth Girls Volleyball is just around the corner and registration starts soon.

The Community and Recreation Services department offers this program to girls ages 7-15 years old. This program will teach the game of volleyball in the spirit of sportsmanship, fun and wholesome competition. Games will be weeknights and Saturdays and the season will begin in early November.
