Countryside Elementary wins first Surprise Junior Knowledge Bowl
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Surprise Community and Recreation Services Department and Surprise Teen Advisory Board recently played host to the first Surprise Junior Knowledge Bowl at the City Council Chambers.
The April 26 event included seventh- and eighth-grade students from Surprise area schools competing in various academic challenges.
After three rounds of 30 questions, a sudden-death overtime was needed to break the 29-29 draw between the two finalists: Countryside and Sunset Hills elementary schools. Countryside Elementary emerged as the first-place winner.
The Sunset Hills Elementary School team, coached by Diana Green, included seventh-grader Bret Raven and eighth-graders Cori Mullis and Chareeze Abarquez.
The Countryside Elementary School team consisted of eighth-graders Victoria Poe, Justin Dezso, Librete Garcia and was coached by Laurie Blackwell and Brenda Petersen.
