Stay cool at Peoria pools

Peoria pools are open for public swimming on weekends. Centennial Pool is at 14388 N. 79th Ave.; Sunrise Pool is at 21321 N. 86th Drive; and Peoria Pool is at 11200 N. 83rd Ave. Weekend hours are noon to 6 p.m. The cost to swim is $1.50 for adults and 50 cents for ages 16 and under. 

On July 20, bring a friend and swim for free at any of the city of Peoria pools. Buy one admission to the pool, and get one free at Centennial Pool, 14338 N. 79th Ave., Sunrise Pool at 21321 N. 86th Drive or Peoria Pool at 11200 N. 83rd Ave. Games and activities will be played periodically throughout the day.

Summer swim lesson registration for Session 4 and 5 is open. Lessons will be at Centennial Pool, Sunrise Pool and Peoria Pool. Lessons are offered in two-week sessions and include the following: Parent/Tot, Preschool, Level 1-6, Adult Lessons, Diving Class and Aqua Aerobics. Lesson times are available in the evenings and the mornings. The fourth session begins July 7. Lesson costs vary and start at $18 for two-week sessions. Registration is done at www.peoriaaz.gov/aquatics. Lessons fill quickly.

Southwest Ambulance and Peoria have teamed to offer free swim lessons for Peoria residents. In an act to prevent child drownings, Southwest Ambulance has sponsored swim lessons at Peoria Pool, 11200 N. 83rd Ave. The lessons are for preschool, Level 1 and 2 classes and are only for Peoria residents. Classes are available in the morning, and the evening sessions are nine days and are 30 minutes long. The fourth session begins July 7. Registration is done at www.peoriaaz.gov/aquatics. You must have your family password, individual ID number and class codes to register. Looking for a place to host a party this summer? Peoria, Centennial or Sunrise Pools are just the place where people can have fun and cool off. The pools are available for rent on Saturday and Sunday evenings after 6 p.m. The cost of the rental depends on the number of participants who will be attending the party. The fee includes lifeguard staff. Food may be brought in, no glass bottles or alcohol is allowed. Check www.peoriaaz.gov/aquatics for information.

Sunrise Pool is offering a Deep Water Aerobics Class from 7 to 7:50 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday. This class will tone and firm while improving your cardiovascular system. Participants must be comfortable in deep water and must provide their own water belt (available at a sporting goods store). Classes run on Tuesdays and Thursdays for two weeks. The cost per session is $20 for Peoria residents and $25 for nonresidents. You can also drop in and try it out for $6 per class. Sunrise Pool also is offering a Water Boot Camp Class from 6 to 6:50 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday. This class will tone and firm while improving your cardiovascular system. This class will target your entire body in a short period of time. Participants must be comfortable in deep water and must provide their own water belt (available at a sporting goods store). Classes run on Tuesdays and Thursdays for two weeks. The cost per session is $20 for Peoria residents and $25 for nonresidents. You can also drop in and try it out for $6 per class. Register for either class at www.peoriaaz.gov/aquatics. You must have your family password, individual ID number and class codes to register. Aqua Aerobics classes are from 7:20 to 8:25 p.m.  Monday through Friday the first week and Monday through Thursday the second week at Peoria Pool. The cost per two-week session is $35 for Peoria residents, or there is a daily walk-in fee of $6.

Lap Swimming is available at all pools: Centennial, Peoria, and Sunrise. The cost is $1.50, or a swim pass can be purchased.  Passes can be purchased at the pools or through www.peoriaaz.gov/aquatics.
