Summer maintenance closures planned at R.H. Johnson
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Recreation Centers of Sun City West advises residents to plan ahead for periods in the coming months when the Sports Pavilion, the Social Hall and a portion of the R.H. Johnson parking lot will be closed for maintenance.
The Social Hall will be closed July 13-31, reopening Aug. 1, for maintenance and renovations of the restrooms. In addition, the restrooms in the courtyard next to Model Railroad also will be renovated, tentatively planned for the end of August.
The Sports Pavilion closure will be Aug. 3-16. The R.H. Johnson parking lot closure will be Aug. 3-5, and only includes the section in front of the Social Hall and Administrative Offices. It runs from the driveway in front of the Sports Pavilion, east to and including the driveway between the Johnson and Sundome parking lots.
Larry Griffith, facilities projects superintendent, said the parking lot will be resealed and restriped in two parts, and as soon as the paint is dry, the part near the Sports Pavilion will be reopened, likely Aug. 4.
The Sports Pavilion closure affects the bowling lanes, billiards and shuffleboard. It will not impact Michael's Strike Zone Eatery, although patrons will have to enter the restaurant through the north entrance. The Sports Pavilion will reopen for regular operations Aug. 17. The closure allows staff to complete needed maintenance repairs all at one time. This year, the bathrooms on both sides of the building also will be renovated.
Residents should plan to purchase guest cards if they will have guests in town on the weekends. Guest cards may be purchased at Member Services in theâR.H. Johnson Administrative Building between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays. Guest cards are usually available at the Sports Pavilion when Member Services is closed, but will not be available at the SportsâPavilion during the summer closure.
