Forest Service announces prescribed burns
Comments 0 | Recommend 0FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Smoke will likely be visible Wednesday and Thursday in the Flagstaff area as crews from the U.S. Forest Service light intentional fires to burn away excess growth that could lead to wildfires.
About 260 acres located a half mile northwest of Fort Tuthill, and south of Woody Mountain Road are scheduled to be intentionally burned Wednesday.
Smoke visible from Flagstaff and Bellemont should disperse to the southwest with the forecast winds.
A prescribed burn on about 100 acres located south of Highway 180, east of Snowbowl Road and north of Fort Valley Ranch Road is planned for Thursday. Smoke is predicted to travel to the southwest away from the highway but will be present around nearby residences.
Light winds are forecast to continue throughout Thursday evening, which should help disperse residual smoke quickly.
