Peoria police start speed enforcement campaign on 91st Avenue

June 24, 2009 - 10:32 AM

In an effort to slow speeding vehicles on 91st Avenue from Thunderbird Road to Bell Road, the Peoria Police Department has started a speed enforcement campaign that will run 24 hours a day until June 30.

Enforcement will be a combined effort of the Police Patrol and Police Traffic Services Sections. Officers working the area have reported speeds in excess of 60 mph, where the posted speed limit varies from 25 to 35 mph.

This campaign will use officers in marked cars, unmarked cars and motorcycles and will continue indefinitely until they observe consistent compliance of the posted speed limit in the area. As in past enforcement efforts, the Peoria Police Department is letting the community know about this campaign, as the department would prefer motorists to voluntarily reduce their speeds rather than having them receive a citation. The posted speed limits of each segment of the special enforcement zone are:

• Bell Road (17000 North) to Kelton Lane (16700 North): 35 mph.

• Kelton Lane (16700 North) to Thunderbird Road (13800 North): 30 mph.

• The speed limit drops to 25 mph from Tumblewood Drive (15700 North) to Greenway from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
