Glendale teens graduate from 1st police academy
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Glendale Police Department’s first teen citizen academy graduated 27 teens Nov. 12 at the Glendale Regional Police Safety Training Center, 11550 W. Glendale Ave.
The teens participated in physical training in each class and learned about crime scene investigations, defensive driving and DUI enforcement. Representatives from units including SWAT, K9 and the communications division addressed the teens, providing information about their duties.
While a few of the teens entered the academy with the desire to pursue a career in law enforcement, after attending the classes, the majority of the students enthusiastically expressed they would consider it as a career option.
“The teens really enjoyed the class, many saying they wished the academy was longer than six weeks,” said Marie Shepherd, volunteers coordinator.
