Glider pilot escapes injury

The pilot of a glider was not injured when his plane crashed Sunday afternoon near State Route 74 and Lake Pleasant Road, officials said.

Mike Tellef, spokesman for the Peoria police and fire departments, said authorities received a call at 3:55 p.m. that a glider had crashed.

Tellef said the pilot attempted to land at the Turf Soaring School in Peoria but realized he was too close to some power lines.

The pilot "tried to avoid the power lines by going around, so he crashed," he said.
