Peoria Today

With Glendale canceling it Fourth of July fireworks show, the festivities at the Peoria Sports Complex could be even more crowded than in past years.

The Peoria Police Department expects an even larger gathering and has passed along some  to help people get to the celebration easier. Or if you're not attending the event, there's advice about how to avoid getting stuck in traffic.

The gates open at 5 p.m. July 4, and there will be an F-16 fly-by at approximately 7. At about 9:15, the fireworks will begin.

Traffic Suggestions:

  • Don't try to exit Loop 101 at Bell Road. (Bell Road backs up onto the freeway leading to traffic collisions.)
  • If heading north on Loop 101, exit at Thunderbird Road, go east to 83rd Avenue and north to the stadium.
  • If coming south on Loop 101, exit Union Hills, go west to 83rd Avenue and south to the stadium or exit at 75th Avenue and go south.
  • From 75th Avenue drive west on Paradise Lane to the stadium.
  • If you plan to consume alcohol, have a designated driver.
  • Be patient.
  • Call 511 for current road conditions and traffic information and *7 for event specific  information. The call is free.
