Luke AFB celebrates volunteers
Comments 0 | Recommend 0More than 470 Luke Air Force Base airmen, civilians and retirees were recognized Wednesday for their volunteer efforts at Luke and in the local community during 2007.
Besides accomplishing Luke's mission of training F-16 fighter pilots and maintainers while deploying mission-ready warfighters, Luke members continue to provide outstanding support to the community.
Luke Air Force Base personnel have contributed more than 80,000 volunteer hours, or an estimated $1.5 million dollars, to the base and surrounding communities.
Luke members volunteer on base at the Airman's Attic, Family Services, Red Cross, 56th Medical Group, Airman and Family Readiness Center and base Thrift Store.
In the community, members have volunteered at churches, schools, food banks, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Adopt-A-Highway and nursing homes.
